Characteristics of PIC MCU:
The hardware system design of the PIC series MCUs is concise, and the instruction system design refines. It is one of the easiest to learn and apply MCUs among all kinds of MCUs. Compared with other MCUs, PIC MCU has the following advantages:
(1) Harvard Bus Architecture:
Its design is different from other MCUs in that it not only adopts the Harvard architecture but also takes the Harvard bus structure. It separates the data bus from the instruction bus in the chip and uses different widths. The advantage of this method is that it realizes the “pipeline operation” of instruction extraction, that is, to fetch the next instruction while executing one instruction. It achieves the single byte and single cycle of all directions, which is helpful to improve the speed of CPU running instructions.

(2) instruction single byte
Because the data bus and instruction bus are separated and have different widths, the addressing space (i.e., address encoding space) of program memory ROM and data memory RAM are independent of each other, and the widths of the two kinds of memory are also different. This design can not only ensure the security of data but also improve the speed of operation and realize the single byte of all instructions.
(3) Reduced Instruction Set (RISC) Technology
The instruction system of PIC series MCU (that is, the set of all instructions recognized by the MCU, called instruction system or education setting, InstrucTIon set) has only 35 instructions, which is easy to learn and use. There are 111 instructions in the instruction system of the MCS-51MCU computer.
(4) Simple addressing
Addressing is the way to find operands. PIC series MCU has only four addressing modes (register indirect addressing, next number addressing, direct addressing and address addressing), which are easy to master, while MCS-51 MCU has seven addressing methods.
(5) High Code Compression Rate
For a 1KB memory space, for a single-chip computer like MCS-51, only about 600 instructions can be stored, while for a PIC series of MCU, the number of instructions can be stored up to 1024.

(6) High running speed
Because of the Harvard bus structure and the pipeline operation mode of command reading and execution, the moving speed significantly improved. PIC17CXX is one of the fastest varieties in the world at present.
(7) Low power consumption
The power consumption of the PIC series MCU is very low, and it is one of the most inferior MCU varieties in the world. The power consumption is less than two mA when working under 4 MHz clock, and it can be lower than one mu A in sleep mode.
(8) Strong driving ability
I/O port has a strong ability to drive a load. The maximum current of each I/O pin can reach 25mA and 20mA respectively. It can directly drive LED, photocoupler or micro relay.
(9) I2C and SPI serial bus ports
Some models of PIC series MCU have I2C and SPI serial bus ports. I2C (Inter-IC bus, also known as IIC) and SPI (Serial peripheral interface) are two serial bus technologies invented by Philips and Motorola respectively. They are the technologies to realize synchronous serial data transmission between chips. Use these serial bus ports; some necessary peripheral devices can quickly.
(10) Simple external circuit
PIC series microcontroller integrates power-on reset circuit, I/O pin pull-up circuit, watchdog timer and so on. It can minimize or avoid external devices, to realize the “pure monolithic” application, which is convenient for development, and also can save circuit board space and manufacturing costs.

Introduction of PIC MCU Series
At present, PIC MCU has 8-bit series, 16-bit series and 32-bit series, which briefly introduce as follows:
8-bit computer series:
Early disposable programming has a PIC12Cxxx series, PIC16CXXX series, currently not recommended for use, but there are still some old products in use, so there are shipments.
Current FLASH products, PIC10FXXX, PIC12FXXX, PIC16FXXX, PIC18FXXXXXX, etc., PIC10F/PIC12F belongs to low-grade 8-bit MCU, some series with 8BIT AD port, low price, small size, suitable for some small applications, PIC16F belongs to middle-grade 8-bit MCU, most with 10BIT AD port, and peripheral ports such as CCP, SPI, I2C, UART, etc., with moderate price, large shipment, PIC18F system. Column belongs to a high-end 8-bit single-chip computer; the price is on the high side; the cost of small batch purchase is similar to that of 16-bit MCU. Of course, peripherals have rich functions.

They are called “DSC.” dsPIC30F is a 5V power supply system, and the 33FJ series is a 3.3V power supply system. Suitable for some high-speed AD signal processing occasions, including 33FJXXXGPXXX series for audio digital signal processing, 33FJXXXMCXXX and 30F series for motor control occasions.
PIC24F series and PIC24H series are common 16BIT MCUs, which are suitable for some applications with higher requirements.
